“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
Being transformed into newness of life in God can be frightening- there is a distinct comfort in what we know, even if it does not continue to serve us. Old habits that have long been with us but no longer help us are the hardest to break in our life’s routines. Our world contains so much complexity, confusion and critique. Sometimes we cannot help but carry a heavy pack of these burdens.
God wants us to thrive, and our hearts to be full. Our hope comes in a God that created a world with joy and goodness abundant. There is always joy to be found in the journey, and destinations to delight in.
As we navigate paths downtrodden, we take comfort in knowing that sometimes, this too shall pass. As we continue to create our life’s winding map, we carry the lessons and truths we have uncovered in our bodies and on our hearts. The working through of our unique journey, the hills we climb, the valleys we endure, the storms we weather, is beautiful and holy. The hills level out, the valleys rise and the sun breaks forth from the clouds. God has never abandoned us, even in our darkest and our most rebellious moments against our creator God. God loves us through those moments and carries us into our long-hoped future. Our seeking hearts find God in every step of our journey, in every vision that leads us, in every embrace we invite.
God of newness and life, help us to bear the burdens that would keep us from enjoying our journey of life. Open our hearts to your presence in all our twists and turns. Amen.
